Instructional Technology Support for NU Students

This guide contains resources for NU students on technology involved with coursework and their future careers!

Which product should I get?

 

Read&Write Desktop Application 

Read&Write Icon

  • The most versatile as you can use it on any desktop application like Microsoft Word and most PDFs.
  • You can use it on the internet, but only in Google Chrome after downloading an extension (different from the one mentioned below)
  • Can be used offline if necessary.

To Activate: Click on the Application and it will pop up at the top of your window.


 

Read&Write Google Chrome Extension Read&Write Google Chrome Extension

  • Has the most features (others do not include Rewordify or Simplify)
  • Works on almost anything you find on the internet (not the best with PDFs and usually has to be started in an online document)
  • Must be used in Google Chrome browser (can not be used on items from your desktop like Word or PowerPoint) 

To Activate: Click on your Google Chrome Extensions (looks like a puzzle piece) and choose Read & Write. restore down

Is the R&W toolbar having trouble showing up? Try Restore Down in your browser and maximize back to full screen, it should pop up!

  • The BEST way to read all PDFs as it makes any PDF more accessible.
  • You can convert an image to PDF, add your signature, and even include math equations plus so much more.
  • The website must be accessed on Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

To Activate: Go to http://orbit.texthelp.com/ so you can upload a PDF from your computer or locate one from your Google Drive.
