Internal Grant Opportunities

Academic Innovation Fund

The Office of Academic Affairs sets aside a total of $100,000 per academic year to support faculty development and innovation in the academic sector.  Full time faculty are welcome to apply for funding in the following four categories:

1. Mini Grant up to $1000:  Proposals supported by these grants include, but are not limited to: classroom instruction, course materials, guest speakers, field trips, admission fees, interdisciplinary collaborations—just about any idea that you believe will enhance the academic experience at NU.  This expands and replaces the “Fund for the Improvement of Teaching” program.  Total funding per academic year: $35,000.

Link:  Mini Grant Application  (Due on October 15 for expenses incurred between January 1, 2020 and May 31, 2020 or April 15 for expenses incurred between June 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.)

2. Student Travel Grant up to $500:  Faculty may apply for grants up to $500 to support travel expenses for a student who is presenting research at a conference.  Total funding per academic year:  $20,000.

3. Strategic Initiative Grant up to $5000:  Faculty may request support between $1,000 and $5,000 for an academic initiative directly tied to the University’s strategic plan.  Total funding per academic year: $20,000.

4. Academic Master Grant above $5,000.  Total funding per academic year : $25,000.
